Des Moines Roosters Win USAFL National Championship

Mason, Ohio – October 16, 2012 The Des Moines Roosters Australian Football club capped their first winning season in style, capturing the USAFL Division 4 National Championship Sunday in Mason, Ohio. The Roosters defeated the defending champs, Milwaukee/Ohio Valley, by a score of 42-28.
“It was an incredible effort,” said coach, Paul Fradd.“The way this team has improved over the course of this season is a testament to the work they’ve put in on the practice field.”
The Roosters played Ft. Lauderdale in the first round, taking down the Fighting Squids 39-6 and then handed Nashville Columbus a crushing defeat 56-6 in the second round of play. Rooster, Matt McDowall, was named Best on Ground (MVP) of the Grand Final match and the entire squad was recognized at an awards banquet later in the evening.
“We are extremely proud to be able to call ourselves National Champions,” said team captain, Joey Abdallah. “But we realize this is just a stepping stone to where we want to be in the ranks of the USAFL.”
The Roosters put together their first winning campaign in 2012, finishing the season with a 6-4 mark and a huge upset over the Division 2 National Champions, the Minnesota Freeze. In addition, the Roosters gained other accolades by being named Team of the Week by Iowa Pro Sports.
The club continues to heavily recruit around the Des Moines area and is open to all levels of experience.The Roosters are focused on building an excellent club culture and invite the community and sponsors to join in as they continue their journey as a club.
