Saturday: The Roosters, Des Moines’ Australian football club, will play its first home games against the Kansas City Power and the Ohio Valley River Rats this weekend. The Roosters formed in 2009, and play Australian rules football, which is a totally different game than the American version . The objective is to score points by passing the ball through a goal, usually by kicking. Players can use any part of their body to move the ball, and must touch or bounce the ball on the ground intermittently. The players cannot throw the ball. There are too many rules to list here, so check out the game this weekend. First game starts at noon, last game starts at 2 p.m. The games will be followed by a post-game celebration at the Royal Mile at 5 p.m. The game is at Stilwell Junior High School, 1601 Vine St., West Des Moines.
